Hi, I’m Deb!

and It’s my honor to help you make triathlon easier

I was the little kid that was always picked last to be on anyone’s team. I was shy, had a low self-esteem, and was just plain uncoordinated. Characteristics that were certainly not going to make for a star athlete. I hated team sports.

I dabbled in everything from soccer and basketball to synchronized swimming.

They were fun for a little while, but team skills just didn’t come easy to me.

By my high school years, I was still uncoordinated, but I found I loved sprinting, high-jumping and hurdling. The high school swim coach asked me to join the swim team, but I opted to play golf instead. I began to see that the things I loved could be done alone. I didn’t need a team to participate in the sports I grew to love. Swimming, biking, running, weightlifting, and golf.

Ten years later, I had taken up long-distance cycling. I completed a 400-mile trek from Twin Cities to Chicago in 1999 through a charity with AIDSRides. I was on my bike to and from work and every weekend checking out new routes throughout Indiana and Illinois.

By the time I reached my 40’s (and still a bit uncoordinated), I was looking to expand my exercise goals, and soon discovered triathlon. I immediately got hooked on the sport, signing up for various distance races. Hours and hours of research all over the internet, books and magazines, and a decent coach, helped me figure out what the heck I was in for. There was SO much to learn! It all made my head spin. It was NOT easy! That’s why this site exists. To make your triathlon journey easier.

Now in my 50’s, I’m still a little uncoordinated, but I have learned a lot.

Today, I’m a certified fitness instructor through the US Air Force and ISSA, an AFAA certified cycling instructor, and a certified paddleboard coach through the Paddlefit® Coaching System.

During my first season as a triathlete, I was introduced to yoga. Yoga became a great cross training tool with swimming, biking, and running. The practice started as a way to reduce injury. It became so much more. Yogic breathing and how to use it during training and events helped me finish all my races. I fell in love with the ever-evolving practice and lessons yoga offered, so I became a yoga teacher, too.

I’ve completed triathlons all over the world and am currently training for my 14th Ironman.

For the record, triathlon IS a team sport. Your family, friends, and training partners will help you in many ways. They are your team.

And that’s exactly why I am here, too. As part of your team. Let’s Go!!!
